Biography

I started playing the flute as an adult in 1987 (studying with Prof John Hinch at the University of Pretoria, South Africa) and never looked back - I love everything related to the flute.  I was on the management committee of the of the Flute Federation of South Africa since its inception in 1987 until the beginning of 2003.  I have also been privileged to have organised South African concert and teaching tours for two international flute players, William Bennett and Trevor Wye.

I hold a Doctorate degree (completed in 1988) from the University of South Africa where I was a lecturer in the Department of Musicology from 1981-1998 . I resigned from the University in 1998 to pursue my Flute Studio full time.  This is where my passion lies - playing and teaching the flute.

I studied jazz flute privately with Dr Chats Devroop (lecturer in saxophone, recorder, jazz, music technology, and historical performance practice at the University of Pretoria, South Africa).

My four Persian cats form the centre of my personal life.  You can read all about them by following the link to My Feline Babies.

Some of my other passions are, Latin and Ballroom dancing, Salsa and anything French.  I'm vegetarian and love fresh foods and Italian cuisine.  I am VERY health conscious.
